La professionalizzazione dell’industria musicale araba indipendente: contro il paradigma della music of resistance

Questo contributo intende gettare luce su due aspetti dell’industria discografica araba indipendente degli ultimi dieci anni: da un lato, la perdita di credito del paradigma accademico della music of resistance; dall’altro, l’inizio di una politica e di una poetica della professionalità, abbracciata trasversalmente da tutte le figure che operano nel settore dell’industria musicale. Nell’articolo si passano in rassegna gli studi di settore più recenti che hanno cercato di decostruire il paradigma della resistenza come cornice interpretativa dominante. Si ricostruisce, inoltre, una breve storia dell’industria discografica nel mondo arabo, che nei suoi oltre cent’anni di storia ha attraversato trasformazioni materiali e simboliche radicali, entrando a far parte a tutti gli effetti della storia culturale ed economica della regione. Infine, si esamina la questione della professionalizzazione dell’industria musicale indipendente araba, messa a tema dai musicisti e dai lavoratori dell’industria musicale come un antidoto alla retorica della resistenza, attraverso il quale contribuire alla formazione di una nuova nozione di agency.
