Tra identità e alterità: immagini di sé e dell’Altro nelle letterature di epoca coloniale e postcoloniale

Con il nono numero di DIVE-IN – An International Journal on Diversity & Inclusion, vorremmo proporre un approfondimento sull’immagine di sé e dell’Altro, così come si è andata elaborando in particolare nelle letterature di epoca coloniale e postcoloniale. I soggetti, i temi e gli spunti di riflessione sulla questione dell’Altro implicano inevitabilmente anche quella dell’Identità: chi osserva l’Altro, sia con uno sguardo gerarchico, moralista, stereotipato, sia con uno sguardo non prevenuto, ma interessato a conoscere (e riconoscere), acquisirà progressivamente anche una diversa coscienza di sé, in modo consapevole o meno; così come d’altronde accade anche all’Altro che - magari usando la lingua e le forme di pensiero di chi lo ha studiato (o storicamente lo ha dominato) - necessariamente assume nuovi paradigmi cognitivi e una nuova percezione di sé.
L’identità dell’Altro, come oggetto di analisi, può avere come referente una minoranza etnica e/o religiosa, per esempio un saraceno o un ebreo o un rom, un colonizzato o un migrante, insomma un “diverso”.

Possibili ambiti di indagine (non esclusivi):
- La letteratura di viaggio, anche in riferimento alle differenze tra la contemporanea letteratura di viaggio e quella di epoca pre-informatica, quando la conoscenza di altri popoli e culture non era supportata da potenti mezzi e tecnologie digitali.
- La letteratura di migrazione, anche integrando l’approccio linguistico e letterario con un approccio imagologico o di cultural studies.
- Il problematico rapporto tra le tematiche dell’alterità e dell’identità e movimenti e idee via via dominanti (nazionalismo, internazionalismo, antisemitismo, imperialismo, globalismo, pacifismo e simili), anche nei suoi riflessi in letteratura.
- Il lessico dell’estraneità e della ‘stranierità’, in relazione, ad esempio, al modo in cui una parola nasce, evolve e acquisisce terreno fertile in certi ambienti socioculturali o in determinati movimenti letterario-filosofici.
- L’alterità e il dialogo interreligioso.

Between Identity and Otherness: Images of the Self and the Other in Colonial and Postcolonial Literatures

With the ninth issue of DIVE-IN - An International Journal on Diversity & Inclusion, we would like to propose an in-depth look at the image of the self and the Other, as it has been elaborated in particular in the literatures of the colonial and postcolonial periods. The subjects, themes and insights into the question of the Other inevitably also imply that of Identity: whoever observes the Other either with a hierarchical, moralistic, stereotyped gaze, or with a gaze that is not prejudiced, but interested in knowing (and recognising), will also progressively acquire a different self-consciousness, consciously or otherwise; just as, on the other hand, it also happens to the Other who - perhaps using the language and thought forms of those who have studied (or historically dominated) it - necessarily takes on new cognitive paradigms and a new perception of self.
The identity of the Other, as an object of analysis, may have as its referent an ethnic and/or religious minority, for example a Saracen or a Jew or a Rom, a colonised or a migrant, in short a ‘different’.

Possible (non-exclusive) areas of investigation:
- Travel literature, also with reference to the differences between contemporary travel literature and that of the pre-computer age, when knowledge of other peoples and cultures was not supported by powerful digital media and technologies.
- The literature of migration, also integrating the linguistic and literary approach with an imagological or cultural studies approach.
- The problematic relationship between the themes of otherness and identity and the dominant movements and ideas of different periods (nationalism, internationalism, anti-Semitism, imperialism, globalism, pacifism, etc.), including their reflection in literature.
- The lexicon of foreignness and ‘strangeness’, in relation, for example, to the way a word is born, evolves and acquires fertile ground in certain socio-cultural environments or in certain literary-philosophical movements.
- Otherness and interreligious dialogue.

Zwischen Identität und Alterität: Bilder des Selbst und des Anderen in kolonialen und postkolonialen Literaturen

Die neunte Nummer von DIVE-IN – An International Journal on Diversity & Inclusion möchte sich vertieften Analysen des Selbst- und Fremdbildes widmen, wie es sich vor allem in der Geschichte der kolonialen und postkolonialen Literaturen widerspiegelt.
Die Gegenstände, Themen und Einsichten zur Frage des Anderen implizieren unweigerlich auch die der Identität: diejenigen, die den Anderen sowohl mit einem hierarchischen, moralistischen, stereotypen Blick als auch mit einem Blick betrachten, der nicht voreingenommen, sondern daran interessiert ist, zu kennen und zu erkennen, werden auch zunehmend ein anderes Selbstbewusstsein erlangen, bewusst oder unbewusst; gerade so wie es auch dem Anderen widerfährt, der – vielleicht unter Verwendung der Sprache und Denkformen derer, die ihn erforscht (oder historisch dominiert) haben – notwendigerweise neue kognitive Paradigmen und eine neue Wahrnehmung seiner selbst annimmt.
Die Identität des Anderen als Gegenstand der Analyse kann sich auf eine ethnische und/oder religiöse Minderheit beziehen, zum Beispiel auf einen Sarazenen, einen Juden oder einen Roma, eine kolonisierte Person oder einen Migranten, kurz gesagt, auf jemanden, der „anders“ ist.

Mögliche (nicht exklusive) Untersuchungsbereiche:
- Reiseliteratur, auch in Bezug auf die Unterschiede zwischen zeitgenössischer Reiseliteratur und der Zeit vor dem Computer, als das Wissen über andere Völker und Kulturen nicht durch hochleistungsfähige digitale Mittel und Technologien unterstützt wurde.
- Migrationsliteratur, die den linguistischen und literarischen Ansatz mit einem imagologischen oder kulturwissenschaftlichen Ansatz verbindet.
- Das problematische Verhältnis zwischen den Themen Andersartigkeit und Identität und zunehmend dominierenden Bewegungen, Ideen und Ideologien (Nationalismus, Internationalismus, Antisemitismus, Imperialismus, Globalismus, Pazifismus und dergleichen), auch in seinen Reflexionen in der Literatur.
- Das Lexikon der Fremdheit/Andersheit und Fremdheit als Nichtzugehörigkeit, beispielsweise in Bezug auf die Art und Weise, wie ein Wort entsteht, sich entwickelt und in bestimmten soziokulturellen Umgebungen oder in bestimmten literarisch-philosophischen Bewegungen fruchtbaren Boden findet.
- Andersheit und interreligiöser Dialog.
